Hello World!

We are excited to bring you our new and improved web site! We are trying to grow the business and we hope the new web site will help us do that.

Other growth here on the farm is the broiler chicken operation.

This fall we built a new field pen for the broiler chickens. It is much larger than the old ones, and gives us the option of raising birds in larger batches. We suspend production in the hottest part of the summer, usually June through September. The birds just don’t do as well in the heat. We try to have frozen chickens for sale then, but we  ran out fairly quickly this past summer. Hence the bigger batches.

We also switched to an organic feed. We have used starter feed (for the broilers) and layer feed (for the laying hens) from Hill-and-dale feed mill. This is a good feed in the sense that it contains no antibiotics or hormones, but the grains are ordinary commercial varieties.

The new feed is certified organic. This costs us twice as much as the old feed, but that is quite an improvement. The best organic feed we could find until was four times more than commercial. So we felt we could justify the switch.

We harvested the season’s first batch at the beginning of this month (October).

So we have broilers for sale again.
